This musical tradition was started by Rick Byars. On the last day of his 333K class, he would show slides from his time as a river guide on the West Coast. He would bring his guitar and accompany the photographs with music… much of it his own. His message? Remember that there is more to life than getting a job and climbing the corporate ladder. Build and enjoy your life outside of the dollar signs of your career. Have a hobby. Have an outside passion, and keep those fires burning, even early in your career.
Clint Tuttle has kept Rick’s musical tradition alive in his own unique way. It has been a couple of years since his last “Last Day of Class” music video, so click below for his 2024 release!
SQL Season (a Stick Season Parody) Lyrics
As we look ahead to summer and you’re ready to unwind
I hope you had yourself a super class with………every coded line
Because the grades don’t really matter………so don’t you be concerned
So get out there and use these skills, and show em what we’ve learned
Now I’m stressed and having feelings…about tech that I can’t face
Chat GPT, oh does it mean……that I will be replaced
And I am terrified of whether I can, even find a job
Will the world even need humans……when it’s all been run by bots
And I learned to code, but now that AI exists
Will I get a job, or are we all in fix
But it’s not your fault, it’s just all about the timing
And maybe even there’s just a little silver lining
Cuz I’ll dream each night of some version of you
Where you use AI as a helpful tool
And it helps you grow which super cool
And we’re still in charge and robots do not rule
So I thought that if I learned something like structure query language
That I could cancel out the blowoff classes and gain some small advantage
Now I am no longer worried, ’cause I feel more confident
Now that I can write some code, the potential’s infinite
And I learned to code, but now that AI exists
Will I get a job, or are we all in fix
But it’s not my fault, it’s just all about the timing
And maybe even there’s just a little silver lining
And I’ll dream each night of some version of you
Where you use AI as a helpful tool
And it helps you grow which super cool
And we’re still in charge and AI do not rule
Where AI doesn’t rule
We use it as a tool I hope this fad just passin’ through
But I doubt it And I learned to code, but now that AI exists
Will I have a job, or are we all in fix
But it’s not my fault, it’s just all about the timing
And maybe even there’s just a little silver lining
And I’ll dream each night of some version of you
Where you use AI as a helpful tool
And it helps you grow which super cool
And we’re still in charge and AI doesn’t
AI doesn’t rule
